There is no better way to launch a tribute piece but honoring it at a concert! Gibson has released its new limited edition guitar, the Gibson Chris Cornell Tribute ES-335. This piece will officially be released at the concert titled “I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell” honoring the late front man’s legacy and contribution to the music industry. The concert will be held at The Forum in Los Angeles on Wednesday, January 16.
The original ES-335 was innovatively designed with Chris Cornell during its first launch. It was clear that the singer had a keen eye when Gibson partnered up with him for this model. This is a reissue of the original 2013 model but with a mother-of-pearl inlay of Cornell’s signature displayed on the headstock. With that detail, it makes this guitar stand out as one of Gibson’s distinct artist tribute designs to date. The ES-335 guitar includes aged Lollarton humbucking pickups, an Olive Drab Satin finish, clear “no number” Top Hat Knobs.
Chris Gueikian, Gibson’s Chief Merchant Officer said that this was the Guitar Chris Cornell fell in love with and contributed to his creative expression. Gueikian hopes to inspire fans to explore their unique sound, just like how Cornell discovered his own, for years to come.
The concert will include performances from members of Chris Cornell’s band The Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave. The Foo Fighters, Ryan Adams, Metallica and many more will also participate with special performances.
With the Tribute ES-335 guitar unveiled at the concert, Gibson will donate two out of the produced 250 guitars of this model to the show. The Chris Cornell Tribute concert is catered for concert goers to gain awareness to a debilitating genetic disorder through The Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation. This will also benefit The Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation which was put up to help vulnerable children around the world.
